RECITAL 2025
“Minds in Motion” will be held at Platt High School in Meriden, CT on June 21st and 22nd
Dear dance families,
For 8 years now, Star Dance Academy has provided students with an incredible performance experience through the June recital. It's a time when all of our thrilled students get to show an audience everything they've learned. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of their year's hard work, dedication, and to show their progress. Dedication to recital commitments is the responsibility of both the students and their parents/guardians. Please read the email thoroughly and save the dates as it's an effort to clarify what we expect from you in terms of commitment and reponsibilty to the annual recital, dress rehearsals, and more. Recital weekend is the biggest and most important event of the year and we strive to make it the best experience for our dancers and audience/dance community. We are known for having extremely entertaining recitals and we are excited for this year's "mind blowing" recital weekend!

We will be holding in studio dress rehearsals in June to make the transition to the stage smoother. We estimate rehearsals taking about 2 and a half hours, but dancers can leave after their dances are done. These rehearsals will be run throughs of the acts of recital with costumes and our Marley dance floor to prepare our dancers, have production numbers rehearse together and help our dress rehearsal on 6/20 at Platt run quickly and smoothly. Because of our in-studio dress rehearsals, we will only be running each recital once during dress rehearsal on 6/20 at Platt.
Only one guardian may come to help their dancer just as it'll be at recital backstage/in the dressing rooms. Please email Miss Chantel if you have a conflict.

Ask family/friends now so you know how many tickets to purchase together or send them the link so they can purchase tickets themselves. More info on how to purchase recital tickets will be announced with a layout of the auditorium soon. We will have tired ticketing prices available again this year and have included a $10 option this year. With tiered ticketing options, it allows families to choose more affordable ticket prices who want to see both recitals. Children 2 and younger do not need a ticket if they are sitting on laps. Dancers will be eligible to purchase tickets as well to watch the recitals if they have bigger breaks in between their routines!
3. Full Dress Rehearsal at Platt is Friday, June 20th at 3pm and 6pm and we are running the shows once! Dancers have the option to practice costume changes or wear dance attire (most people prefer wearing their recital t-shirts). Dancers should arrive in their first costume ready to perform and head straight to their dressing room after checking in with attendance.Bring a bagged dinner/snacks and water for dancers and be sure you have everything you need for each routine (costume, tights, shoes, hair accessories, etc). Recital 1 will run 3-5:30pm & Recital 2 will run 6-8:30pm.
4. Recital Days are Saturday 6/21 & Sunday 6/22 at Platt! Dancers' call time is 12:45pm (must be checked in and by this time) as we need to line up and practice bows and the recital begins at 2:00pm. Dance with Me/Tumble Time can arrive for 1:30pm. Audience doors will open at 1:30pm. We will be selling concessions and star grams (special notes/wishes for your dancer) in the lobby. Please carpool as we experienced last year that parking goes quickly! Recital checklist: all costumes, all dance shoes, hair pieces/accessories, spare tights if needed, hair brush, gel/hairspray, bobby pins, makeup, mirror, makeup wipes, double sided tape/body glue if needed, skin color undergarments, bandaids, medicine, safety pins, water, and non-messy activities if younger.
5. Recital Bouquets - All female dancers are required to have flowers at recital for finale bows. As part of our cherished recital tradition, each dancer will take a final bow at the end of recital. Female dancers are required to have a bouquet, and every dancer will receive a trophy provided by SDA to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. To make it easy, we offer flowers that will be delivered to our recital and will be available for pick up in the lobby at Platt High School before recital begins. Flower orders must be submitted and paid for by Sunday, June 8h! Sign-up form will be released soon!
6. Recital Volunteers & Donations Needed. Each family for recital is required to volunteer or donate an item to help support our recital. There are many opportunities to help with set up, concessions/sales tables, tickets, backstage, dressing room, snack/concession donations, breakdown and more! It takes our entire dance family to run a successful recital weekend. We appreciate your support in our biggest event of the season! Backstage badges will be distributed to qualifying volunteers at Dress Rehearsal. Click the link to sign up! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A044DAFA723A7F94-56843665-recital#/

Please check DSP to ensure that all balances are paid for, that your dancer has the correct style/size shoes, and remember to communicate if your dancer will be missing class - attendance is crucial!
